what is Childcare Subsidy

The Child Care Subsidy (CSS) makes accessing high-quality childcare and early education easy and more affordable for eligible families.

We are here to help you get started with the CCS process – it can be confusing, but we can help make the application process run a little smoother.

The CCS is financial assistance from the government to help cover the cost of childcare. The amount you receive depends on several factors including combined family income, child’s age, paid and unpaid activities such as job or volunteer work that your family is involved with. There is additional support for families experiencing temporary financial hardship, for foster families, grandparents etc.

To make it easier, the CCS you are entitled too os paid directly to the service, so you only need to pay the gap fee.

How to calculate your gap fee

Daily CCS = $12.2 x your CCS percentage x 0.95 (CCS withhold 5 %) x session hours = Your CCS amount.

To be eligible for CCS, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Care for a child 13 years or younger (not attending high school)
  • Use an approved childcare provider
  • Be responsible for paying the fees of childcare (primary guardian)
  • Child must be fully immunised up to date
  • Meet residency requirements

Please get in contact if you need help determining your eligibility.

To claim the CCS, the primary guardian and the child/children enrolled with need their unique CRN. This can be accessed from MyGov.
